What we do with your information
This page is a plain-English summary of how Business Site Works handles the details you give us when you run a free website check.
What we collect
- Your business name, trade and town or city.
- The website address you asked us to check.
- Your email address, which we keep so the report can be sent to you.
- Your phone number, only if you choose to give it.
- The results of the check, the report we write from them, and the date of the check.
- Whether you ticked the box asking for occasional Business Site Works updates.
Why we use your email address
We keep it with your check so the report can be sent to you once email delivery is available. That is the reason we ask for it, and you get the report whether or not you agree to anything else. If you tick the optional box, we may also send occasional Business Site Works updates. Any update email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time using the contact details below. Leaving the box unticked makes no difference to your check or your report.
Report links
Your report lives at a long, private link. Anyone who has that link can open the report, so only share it with people you are happy to see it. The report itself does not show your email address, your phone number, or whether you agreed to marketing.
What we do not do
We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to advertising networks. We do not use your details to work out a search ranking, and we do not add you to a marketing list unless you tick the box.
Deleting your details, or asking a question
You can ask us to delete everything we hold about you, or ask any privacy question, by getting in touch:
We will remove your records when you ask, unless we are required to keep something for a legal reason.
Who runs the check
The check fetches your homepage once, over a normal web connection, and reads the page code your visitors’ browsers receive. It does not open your site in a phone-sized browser, it does not log in anywhere, it does not crawl the rest of your site, and it does not send test messages through your contact form.
